This alliance targets a high-growth market. According to Yole, the global GaN power device market is projected to reach $2.9 billion by 2030, growing at a 42% CAGR from 2024 to 2030. Mid- and low-voltage GaN adoption has previously been limited by wafer supply shortages and high manufacturing costs. Leveraging Innoscience's industry-leading GaN production capacity and onsemi's technical expertise, the partners aim to rapidly fill market gaps and unlock significant value.

The collaboration's foundation is strong technical synergy. GaN offers inherent advantages in high efficiency and compact size. onsemi's proprietary vertical GaN (vGaN) technology reportedly reduces defect density to one ten-millionth that of silicon-based GaN, significantly boosting yield and reliability. Combined, the partnership targets devices capable of withstanding over 1200V, with 50% lower power conversion losses and a footprint one-third the size of lateral GaN.

The partnership has outlined clear applications across multiple sectors:

  • Industrial: Robot motor drives and solar microinverters.

  • Automotive: DC-DC converters for new energy vehicles.

  • AI Data Centers: Intermediate bus converters to support rising power demands.

This collaboration promises customers shorter time-to-market, secured large-volume supply, and reduced total system costs.

Antoine Jalabert, onsemi's Strategic Vice President, stated that leveraging Innoscience's capacity will accelerate global GaN supply expansion for mainstream power applications. Innoscience's Senior Vice President Yi Sun emphasized their joint commitment to broadening GaN technology adoption to support energy efficiency and carbon reduction goals.

ICgoodFind: This strategic partnership between a leading IDM and a major GaN foundry addresses critical bottlenecks, signaling accelerated maturation and penetration of GaN solutions across key industries.
